The 2017 Africa Rally Championship edges closer to the finale with the penultimate round heading to Kigali Rwanda this weekend.
This year’s rally is expected to be the focal point for the African championship as it could be this year’s title decider.
Kenya’s Manvir Baryan and Leroy Gomes from Zambia remain the only title contenders heading into the Mountain Gorilla Rally.
Baryan has 65 points,12 points more than Gomes ; 50 more points are still available to fight for this year.
However, Rwanda Rally may boost or cutback Baryan and Gomes title hopes into the season finale in Zambia next month. Baryan and co-driver Drew Sturrock won the previous two events in Uganda and Tanzania which pushed them on top of the ARC leaderboard and the stakes are high on their side to go top again in Rwanda.
Basing on their previous performance, the Multiple Rally Team remain odds on favourites to win in Rwanda.
Leroy Gomes and co-driver Urshlla Gomes will have to adjust their preparations for either a closer finish or even finish ahead of Baryan to send the title to the wire in Zambia. The racing couple has covered all the ARC events this year and their consistence has kept them in line for the title.
Meanwhile, six other ARC crews are expected to grace the event this weekend.
Kleevan Gomes, Giancarlo Davite, Piero Canobbio, Jean Claude Gakwaya and Velery Bukera are other crews up for the ARC battle.
Jaspreet Chatthe and Christakis Fitidis opted out of the event.
